OKLAHOMA CITY -- John Brown University freshman Alejandro Gallardo has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, following his standout performance in the Golden Eagles' conference-opening victory over Texas Wesleyan, the conference office announced Monday morning (Sept. 30).
The accolade is the first weekly honor of Gallardo's collegiate career.
Gallardo delivered his second hat trick of the season in JBU's 7-3 drubbing of Texas Wesleyan on Saturday, which included the game-winning goal. His earlier hat trick came in a dominant 7-1 win over McPherson (Kan.) earlier this season.
On Saturday, Gallardo poured in a pair of first-half goals, leading the Golden Eagles (4-0-4, 1-0-0 Sooner Athletic) to a commanding 5-1 lead at halftime. He capped off the three-goal foray by scoring in the 49th minute, extending the hosts' lead to five in an eventual 7-3 drubbing of the Rams.
Gallardo has quickly established himself as a key offensive threat for JBU, showcasing his finishing abilities and composure in critical moments. His contributions proved pivotal in ensuring the Golden Eagles opened their Sooner Athletic Conference slate with a victory.
John Brown will return to action on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 1) when they travel to Bethany, Okla., to face Southwestern Christian. Kickoff at Cagle Family Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
