PLAINVIEW, Texas -- Freshman Kate Carlson hit .368 and smacked eight kills and junior Akayla Kador added a team-leading nine kills and a pair of blocks, but it wasn't enough as the John Brown University volleyball team fell in straight sets (18-25, 18-25, 23-25) at Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 11) inside the Hutcherson Center.
The Golden Eagles (8-13, 4-9 Sooner Athletic) were limited to a .119 attack efficiency (34-21-109), as it dropped its second straight after collecting a pair of wins over Oklahoma City and Southwestern Christian (Okla.) to close out its prior five-match homestand.
Led by Fade Ogunbade's match-high 11 kills, Wayland Baptist (10-8, 9-5) hit over .300 in the second and third sets, and finished the match at a .274 rate (43-14-106).
Kador's nine terminations on 16 swings (.500) led the visitors, while freshman Taylor Kosmicki passed out 15 assists. Sophomore Mallory Jury scooped up 10 Pioneer attacks in the back row, and freshman Reese Montgomery added a pair of block-assists in the middle.
With the win, Wayland Baptist sweeps the season series with the Blue and Gold, but JBU holds an all-time 38-31 advantage since joining the Sooner Athletic in 1995.
The Golden Eagles will now return to Bill George Arena for a two-match homestand, beginning with a 6 p.m. matchup with SAC-leading Texas Wesleyan on Friday night (Oct. 17). Both matches on the weekend will be carried live by the SAC Sports Network and the Urban Edge Network.
