BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- A tough Oklahoma Wesleyan squad proved too much for the John Brown University women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15), as the Golden Eagles fell 6-1 at Bartlesville High School.
John Brown (3-2) opened doubles play with a victory at the third slot, where sophomores Annelise Dunn and Avery Webber combined for a 6-4 win over Kylie White and Nikoleta Aleksic. However, Oklahoma Wesleyan (3-1) took control by securing wins at the top two positions, clinching the doubles point.
The Eagles (2-1) carried its momentum into singles action, winning five of six matchups. Freshman Ashley Miller battled at the top singles spot, but Rocio Lisette proved too strong, posting a 6-0, 6-1 decision. At the third flight, freshman Arianny Sira fell 6-1, 6-4 to Nancy Henderson, while senior Erin Kuykendall dropped a 6-4, 6-4 result at the second slot to Jewel Henderson.
Oklahoma Wesleyan clinched the match when sophomore Ana Moreno fell at the fourth flight, 6-1, 6-2, to Madeline Henderson. John Brown's lone singles victory came at the sixth position, where Webber delivered a 6-4, 6-4 straight-sets win over White. At No. 5, Dunn forced a third-set tiebreak but fell in a hard-fought 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 decision to Aleksic.
John Brown returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 22) when the Golden Eagles take on Evangel (Mo.) at the Cooper Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.
