OKLAHOMA CITY -- Following the close of the 2024-25 season, three John Brown University women's basketball student-athletes team received postseason accolades, the conference office announced Wednesday morning (March 5).
Freshman guard Sarah Snodgrass headlined the selections with a spot on the All-SAC Second Team and All-Freshman Team, while freshman forward Caelyn Ferguson earned Honorable Mention All-SAC and the SAC Sportsmanship Award. Sophomore guard Abbey Sanders was also recognized as a Third Team All-SAC selection for her standout season.
"I would like to thank the coaches of the Sooner Athletic Conference for recognizing and celebrating Sarah, Abbey, and Caelyn and the work they put in to earn these honors," head coach Sydni Salvato noted. "All three of these young women bring their own unique strengths and qualities that make our team better on and off the court.
"I couldn't be prouder of these three and our team as a whole. I only wish everyone could experience the joy of being around these amazing young women every day. The future is bright!"
Making an immediate impact in her first collegiate campaign, Snodgrass made an impact on both ends of the floor, becoming the sixth Freshman of the Year in program history. The freshman guard averaged 18.1 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, leading the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding. She recorded 24 double-doubles and was one of only three players in the SAC to average a double-double. Her season was highlighted by a career-high 36-point performance in JBU's win over North Texas at Dallas and a season-best 19-rebound performance against the Trailblazers. Snodgrass also remained a steady presence at the free-throw line, shooting 74 percent (125-of-168) on the year, helping her hit the 20-point mark nine times this year.
Finishing as the Sooner Athletic's top three-point shooter, Sanders delivered a strong sophomore campaign by earning Third Team All-SAC honors after landing on the All-Freshman Team last season. The sharp-shooting guard averaged 10.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, while knocking down 43 percent (76-of-178) from three-point range. Sanders showcased her deep shooting ability throughout the season, highlighted by a seven three-pointer performance against Texas Wesleyan, where she finished with 21 points. Her best scoring effort came early in the season, when she erupted for 27 points against Cottey (Mo.).
Ferguson made a significant impact in her first season, providing consistency and versatility for the Golden Eagles. The freshman forward averaged 12.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 80 percent (44-of-55) from the free-throw line. Ferguson recorded a season-high 19 points at College of the Ozarks (Mo.) and tallied a career-best four steals in the same contest. Her leadership and composure were recognized with the SAC Sportsmanship Award, a testament to her integrity and competitive spirit.
"Sarah proved to be a dominant force this year who not only excelled on the court but also as a teammate and student," added Salvato. "She worked tirelessly to give her best effort for her teammates, and I know that she will only continue to grow her game. Abbey was our steady rock and not only a sharpshooter but also an excellent ball handler who pushed our offense forward. She has a calm and confident demeanor that helped her make some big plays late in games this year. I am also proud of Caelyn for earning the Sooner Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award. She gave her all on the court with selflessness and a deep love for her team. Even through adversity, Caelyn conducted herself with the highest integrity and a passion for our mission."
The Golden Eagles concluded its season with a Sooner Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal appearance, finishing with a 13-16 overall record, 11-13 in league play.
