Valorant Squad Captures First ECAC Title

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- After a nearly four-hour battle, the John Brown University Valorant team defeated Northeastern (Mass.) 3-1 to win the best-of-five Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division C Valorant championship on Monday night (April 21) inside the Esports Arena.

The victory capped a perfect 11-0 record for the Golden Eagles in ECAC play this season, and concluded in a playoff run that featured victories over East Coast Polytechnic Institute (Va.), Central Maine Community College and Heidelberg (Ohio) before the Blue and Gold defeated Northeastern.

"I am incredibly proud of this team, their effort, their growth and their performance," said Carter Henson, JBU esports co-director. "An undefeated ECAC season against some of the competition we've faced is no small feat and they have been a thrill to watch."

The championship roster included team captain Wil Moon, Revelle Hadley, Ryan Sturdy, JP House and Aidan Henderson and marks JBU's first Valorant championship and third esports title overall.

For Moon, who participated in the program's earliest days, the championship represents significant progress. "I was on the first-ever Valorant team, so I really got to see the growth over the years," Moon said. "In our first season, we took one total map, not even a series."

Throughout the season, the team competed against institutions of varying sizes, including larger Division I schools and smaller colleges with established esports programs.

The esports program at JBU previously claimed championships in Rocket League (NACE Varsity Plus division, 2024) and League of Legends (NECC Emergents - East Division, 2023).
