SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Junior Addie Craig opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match and finished with a brace, and the No. 7 John Brown University women's soccer team ran away with a 4-0 win over LSU Shreveport (La.) to open the 2025 campaign with a lopsided victory.
Returning junior All-American Julia Lambert provided the insurance marker just over two minutes later, and freshman Joy Long netted her first career goal in her first collegiate appearance as the Golden Eagles (1-0-0) out-shot LSUS by a 22-4 margin.
Sophomore All-American Marely Fonseca wasn't tested very much, and did need to record a save through the entirety of the 90 minutes to complete the clean sheet – the ninth of her young collegiate career.
The pitch was slanted all afternoon, and began just 15 seconds into the match when Lambert's rip from 20 yards rattled the crossbar, setting the offensive tone for the scorching afternoon.
A wayward pass sprung Craig up the left flank, and the junior used her speed to navigate past the defender and unload a shot past Pilot keeper Elena Lopez, who had wandered out of goal, to give the hosts a quick 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later, Lambert chipped Lopez, finishing a combination passing play that began from junior Summer Holmes and connected through sophomore Katherine Keys to double the Golden Eagle advantage.
Keys' second assist in as many goals produced a 3-0 padding for the Blue and Gold in the 18th minute. The sophomore was able to maintain control between a trio of Pilots before poking a ball through the back line that left Craig, once again, all alone with Lopez. Craig calmly deposited a strike to the left side for her second of the match.
The scoring finished in the 25th minute just before the hydration break. At the back post, Long netted her debut goal on a one-touch strike to the bottom left corner of goal to place the hosts up four. Senior Aubrey Winter sent the gorgeous service in from the right flag.
Head coach Dr. Kathleen Paulsen emptied her bench over the course of the match, with each Golden Eagle finding time on the pitch as the hosts continued to ask questions despite not scoring again in the final 65 minutes of play.
JBU finished the afternoon with an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks and moved to 2-0-0 all-time against the Pilots.
John Brown returns to action on Friday (Aug. 29) evening, when the Blue and Gold welcome Avila (Mo.) to Alumni Field for the programs' first ever meeting. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. as part of First Friday Fútbol festivities.
