OKLAHOMA CITY -- John Brown University sophomore Alejandro Gallardo raked in his fourth-career SAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday morning (Sept. 2).
Gallardo opened the scoring for John Brown at No. 5 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Monday (Aug. 25) night, leveling the match at one, and later dished out an assist on freshman Constantin Bauer's first-career collegiate goal – which handed the visitors a 3-2 advantage late in the match. OKWU would later score to finish with a 3-3 tie.
On Friday (Aug. 29) night, the sophomore scored a brace in the final 22 minutes of action in the Golden Eagles' 7-1 romp of Hesston (Kan.). Prior to that, Gallardo assisted on goals from senior Ahmed Abess and junior Atim Roper to round out a six-point night.
Over the two matches on the week, he piled up three goals on seven shots and added three assists (7 points) in back-to-back 90-minute performances for the Blue and Gold. Gallardo has now started 21 times in 22 career appearances, and has a resume that features 13 goals and 12 assists (38 points) and was named last season's Sooner Athletic Freshman of the Year.
John Brown heads to Springfield, Mo. later today to take on Mission (Mo.) at Allison Sports Town. The match is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. as the Golden Eagles eye its first road victory of the campaign.
