OKLAHOMA CITY -- John Brown University sophomore Juan Almanza earned his second-consecutive SAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition, the league office announced Monday morning (Sept. 22).
Almanza again returned as the league's top defensive player after backstopping the Golden Eagles to a stout 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 20) at Columbia (Mo.).
In the Blue and Gold's first victory in Columbia since 1992, Almanza made the lone first-half save required of him as the visiting Golden Eagles responded with three consecutive second-half goals in the win.
The native Panamanian has quickly built up a 3-0-0 record, including his first-career clean sheet against the Cougars. He boasts a .833 save percentage and a 0.57 goals-against average (.80), stopping 10 of 12 shots fired on target in his five appearances so far in 2025.
JBU returns to action on Saturday evening (Sept. 27) when the Golden Eagles take on Science & Arts (Okla.) in the 39th-ever meeting. The match is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start at McLaughlin Field.
