OKLAHOMA CITY -- After posting consecutive clean sheets and making six saves across a pair of league victories, John Brown University freshman goalkeeper Ansley Fuchs was named the Sooner Athletic Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Digital Scoreboards, the league office announced Monday (Oct. 12).
Fuchs went the full 180 minutes without conceding as No. 20 John Brown outscored Central Christian (Kan.) and Mid-America Christian (Okla.) by a combined 11-0. She needed one save in Tuesday afternoon's (Oct. 6) 7-0 victory at Central Christian, where the Tigers managed only two shots overall and one on frame.
The Fairview, N.C., native faced considerably more pressure Saturday afternoon (Oct. 10) at Mid-America Christian, turning aside all five shots on goal in a 4-0 win. Fuchs made two stops before halftime and three more after the interval, including saves on each of the Evangels' final three attempts on target over the closing 15 minutes.
The two shutouts raised Fuchs' season total to eight and improved her record to 9-1-2 as John Brown extended its unbeaten run to 11 matches. She has now earned two SAC Defensive Player of the Week awards this season, becoming the only repeat recipient among the five Golden Eagles honored through Oct. 12.
John Brown has collected six women's soccer weekly awards this season, including four on the defensive side. Sophomore Andi Riley opened the run with Offensive Player of the Week honors Aug. 31, followed by defensive selections for Fuchs on Sept. 21, junior Caitlin Hilson on Sept. 28 and junior Bella Mendieta on Oct. 5.
Senior Addie Craig joined Fuchs in this week's honors as the Golden Eagles swept the SAC offensive and defensive awards for the first time this season.
A week separates the Blue and Gold from its next match, with Nelson (Texas) visiting Alumni Field at 4 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 17). Fans can watch the SAC matchup live on Urban Edge Network and the SAC Sports Network.
