OKLAHOMA CITY -- After matching a career high with two goals and two assists in a 5-1 victory over Nelson (Texas), John Brown University junior forward Tianna Jones was named the Sooner Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Digital Scoreboards, the league office announced Monday (Oct. 19).
Jones accounted for six points while directly contributing to each of No. 19 John Brown's first four goals Saturday afternoon (Oct. 17) at Alumni Field. She opened the scoring in the 5th minute, supplied the assist on Addie Craig's eventual game-winner in the 17th and added her second goal seven minutes later before setting up Ellie Porter in the 42nd minute to send the Golden Eagles into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.
The Bentonville, Ark., native finished with four shots and put all four on frame as JBU improved to 10-1-2 overall and 6-0-0 in Sooner Athletic play. The victory extended John Brown's winning streak to six matches and its unbeaten run to 12.
The honor is the first SAC weekly award of Jones' career and gives the Blue and Gold seven women's soccer weekly selections this season among six different players. Jones joins sophomore Andi Riley and senior Addie Craig as Offensive Player of the Week recipients, while freshman goalkeeper Ansley Fuchs has collected two defensive honors alongside junior Caitlin Hilson and junior Bella Mendieta.
John Brown takes its title chase to Plainview, Texas, on Wednesday (Oct. 21), facing Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 5:30 p.m. at J.V. Hilliard Field. The road matchup will air live on the Urban Edge Network.
