Historic Performances Fuel Chan, Clark Sweep of Women’s Indoor Weekly Awards

OKLAHOMA CITY -- John Brown University swept the Sooner Athletic Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week after standout performances from freshmen Katalina Chan and Nadia Clark at the Missouri Southern State Lion Open this past weekend (Feb. 6-7), the conference office announced Tuesday morning (Feb. 10).

Chan, earning her first career Track Athlete of the Week honors, delivered a pair of victories on the track, capturing first place in both the 200 meters and 400 meters. Her winning time of 25.64 seconds in the 200 not only marked a personal best, but also set a new program record, while her 1:00.68 in the 400 secured another event title against a strong field.

The Overland Park, Kansas native also competed in the 60 meters, advancing from preliminaries to finals while posting a personal-record 7.99 in the opening round before finishing seventh in the final.

Chan becomes the sixth women's indoor track athlete to earn SAC Track Athlete of the Week honors since the Blue and Gold launched the track and field program in 2018-19, joining Allika Pearson (twice), Kamree Dye, Cera Eckenroth and Hope Ahnfeldt.

Clark was named the league's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career following a strong showing in the throwing events. She placed fourth in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 11.88 meters, the ninth-best mark in program history, and added a personal-best 11.23 meters in the weight throw, ranking eighth all-time.

Clark becomes just the second women's indoor field athlete in program history to receive SAC weekly honors, joining Evie Scoles as the only Golden Eagles to earn the distinction.

"We are incredibly happy for Katalina and Nadia as they receive this recognition," head coach Peter Cunningham said. "We have been proud of both of them long before this award, because of the consistent work they put in as they pursue their best. Their love for and pursuit of Jesus, combined with a passion for the sport, is a great example of the type of athlete we hope to build this program around. Well done, ladies!"

The Golden Eagles are back in action this weekend (Feb. 13-14) in Fayetteville at the Tyson Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas inside the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center.
