SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- The John Brown University women's basketball team used a dominant night on the glass and earned a 76-66 victory over Central Christian (Kan.) on Thursday night (Feb. 12) inside Bill George Arena behind a 19-point, 19-rebound performance from sophomore Sarah Snodgrass.
Snodgrass added five assists as the Golden Eagles (10-15, 8-11 Sooner Athletic) held a 58-33 rebounding advantage, including a 14-8 edge on the offensive glass that translated into a 21-7 margin in second-chance points. The Golden Eagles also scored 43 points in the paint and 13 in transition.
Snodgrass' 19 rebounds tied for the third-most in program history and marked her 17th double-double of the season. Sixteen of her boards came on the defensive end, limiting Central Christian to one-shot possessions across extended stretches of the game.
JBU finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field (24-of-62) and 30 percent from three-point range (7-of-23). The Golden Eagles hit 21-of-28 at the line, including 13-of-16 in the fourth quarter.
All three lead changes and all five ties occurred in the opening quarter. Central Christian shot 15 percent from the field (3-of-20) in the first 10 minutes, allowing John Brown to move in front after the early back-and-forth as the teams combined for just 20 points collectively. From that point forward, the Blue and Gold extended the margin through rebounding and interior scoring.
Behind a 16-5 run to open the fourth quarter, John Brown built its largest lead at 19 with 3:46 remaining before Central Christian reduced the margin to 10 in the final minutes. The hosts maintained its lead largely fueled by sophomore Caitlyn Ferguson, who scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half.
Abbey Sanders added 14 points for JBU, knocking down 3-of-6 from three-point range. Ferguson contributed eight rebounds, while freshman Tayla Trammell finished with eight points and seven boards. Junior Hannah McLain added eight points and four rebounds off the bench.
Central Christian (6-19, 2-17 SAC) was led by Kylee Jones with 21 points, shooting 6-of-17 from the field and 8-of-8 at the free-throw line while adding six rebounds. Chloe Clevenger scored 16 points with six assists off the bench, and Charmayne Marshall added 14 points.
Central Christian shot 30 percent overall (21-of-71) and 27 percent from beyond the arc (7-of-26), converting 85 percent at the line (17-of-20). The Tigers recorded 18 points off turnovers and received 23 points from their bench.
John Brown hits the road for its final away contest of the regular season, taking on Langston (Okla.) inside C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14) at 2 p.m. The clash with the conference leaders will be carried live on the SAC Sports Network and the Urban Edge Network.
