Men's Basketball Falls at No. 8 Langston, Split Season Series

LANGSTON, Okla. -- The John Brown University men's basketball team fell 73–40 on the road to No. 8 Langston Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14) inside C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse, as the squads split the season series.

Trae Oetting led John Brown (10-15, 7-12 SAC) with 13 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 1-of-3 from three-point range. Josh Stewart followed with nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

No other Golden Eagle scored more than five points as JBU was held to 11 field goals for the game.

Langston carried a 32–24 lead into halftime after shooting 41 percent from the field (12-of-29) in the opening half while limiting JBU to 40 percent shooting (6-of-15) over the same stretch.

The separation widened after the break. LU shot 58 percent in the second half (15-of-26) and connected on 6-of-9 from three-point range during the final 20 minutes. JBU, meanwhile, was limited to 5-of-22 shooting (23 percent) after halftime and made just one triple (1-of-9) in the second half.

The Lions generated 36 points in the paint and 16 second-chance points, converting 13 offensive rebounds into additional possessions. The Blue and Gold were held to 14 paint points and two second-chance points as the hosts won the rebounding battle, 37-23.

Langston (21-5, 16-4 SAC) finished the game shooting 49 percent from the field (27-of-55) and 53 percent from three-point range (8-of-15), converting 73 percent at the free-throw line (11-of-15). John Brown shot 30 percent overall (11-of-37), 25 percent from three-point range (4-of-16) and 64 percent at the line (14-of-22).

Omar Henry led Langston with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. Orlando Thomas added 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Antonio Lewis contributed 10 points, while Trey Clarke and Cam McCoy added nine and eight, respectively.

JBU will now restart the previously suspended game at Science & Arts (Okla.) on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 15) at 1 p.m. Beginning at the 10:00 mark of the second half and the Drovers holding a 63-52 lead live on the SAC Sports Network and the Urban Edge Network.
