Snodgrass, Third-Quarter Surge Lift JBU Past Oklahoma City

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- The John Brown University women's basketball team received 22 points and 17 rebounds from sophomore Sarah Snodgrass and used a decisive third-quarter stretch and held on for a 69-54 victory over Oklahoma City in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 21) inside Bill George Arena.

Snodgrass finished 9-of-21 from the field while collecting eight offensive rebounds to complete her 20th double-double of the season. Sophomore Caelyn Ferguson added 16 points on an impressive 7-of-9 shooting afternoon and recorded three assists and two blocks. Junior Abbey Sanders scored 11 points, connecting on 3-of-8 from three-point range, and junior Hannah McLain contributed 11 points off the bench while converting 5-of-6 at the line.

John Brown (13-15, 11-11 Sooner Athletic) led 18-12 after the first quarter and carried a 35-26 advantage into halftime. The Golden Eagles limited Oklahoma City to 33 percent shooting (5-of-15) in the second quarter while adding 17 points of their own to extend the margin before the break.

The separation came in the third quarter. JBU outscored Oklahoma City 22-12 in the period, shooting 57 percent from the field (8-of-14) and connected on 4-of-6 three-point attempts. The Golden Eagles built its largest lead of the afternoon at 20 points with 1:24 remaining in the frame.

Oklahoma City (10-18, 6-16 SAC) outscored John Brown 16-12 in the fourth quarter and pulled within 10 with just over four minutes to play, but the hosts hit 5-of-7 at the free throw line in the last frame to close out the season split with the Stars.

For the contest, John Brown shot 41 percent from the field (24-of-58), 30 percent from three-point range (9-of-30) and 12-of-15 at the free throw line. Oklahoma City finished at 39 percent overall (20-of-51), 33 percent from behind the arc (4-of-12) and 10-of-14 at the stripe.

Oklahoma City was led by Jerzie Bryant with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Sunishka Kartik added 10 points and six rebounds, while Brooke Curry and Amanda Sene Da Cruz each finished with eight points.

The Golden Eagles held a 35-28 rebounding advantage, including 12 offensive boards that led to 11 second-chance points, and recorded a season-best nine blocks.

Now with the regular season at a close, the Blue and Gold head to Oklahoma City next week for the Sooner Athletic tournament, where the Golden Eagles will take on third-seeded Nelson (Texas) in the quarterfinal round on Thursday night (Feb. 26). The 7:30 p.m. tip inside Abe Lemons Arena will are live on the Urban Edge Network.
