LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The John Brown University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Texas A&M Texarkana on Friday afternoon (Feb. 27) at Burns Park Tennis Center.
Texas A&M Texarkana (7-1) swept all three doubles flights to claim the doubles point. Fedir Zalievskyi and Lucas Yamaguti opened the scoring with a 6-3 win over sophomore Lucas Machado and freshman Santiago Jaime at the second position, before Lawson Swain and Alvaro Tormo Lopez handled senior Jonathan Hillock and junior Grant Hinkle, 6-4, at the third flight.
Matias Penaranda and Jose Rodrigues secured the doubles point with a 6-1 victory over senior Spencer Keeter and junior Andrew Aylor at the top slot.
The Golden Eagles (2-6) fell further behind in singles play. Penaranda defeated Machado, 6-2, 6-1, at the second position, followed by Yamaguti handling Aylor, 6-4, 6-4, at the fifth flight.
The match was clinched at the sixth spot, where Swain edged sophomore William Prochazka, 6-4, 7-5, securing the TAMUT team victory.
With the outcome decided, Zalievskyi outlasted Hillock, 4-6, 7-5, 10-3, at the third flight. Keeter provided the lone bright spot for JBU with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Sebastian Romanos at the top singles position. Rodrigues completed the day for Texarkana with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 win over Jaime at the fourth flight.
JBU returns to action with a pair of games on Saturday (Feb. 28) at Burns Park Tennis Center, taking on Rust (Miss.) and Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
