SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- John Brown University freshman Katalina Chan earned Sooner Athletic Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday (March 24) afternoon, the conference announced.
The recognition is Chan's second career SAC weekly award and her first outdoors, having previously claimed an indoor honor on Feb. 10.
"Incredibly proud of Katalina for winning her second Athlete of the Week award this season," head coach Peter Cunningham said. "Her versatility and range are incredible. It's also a gift to be proud of her character as she wins these types of awards and sets new program records."
Chan turned in a standout performance at the Spire Distance Carnival & Team Challenge on March 20-21, posting program records in the 100 meters and 200 meters. She ran a 12.01 in the 100, finishing second, before winning the 200 with a time of 24.94. Chan also ran the anchor leg on the Blue and Gold's 1,600-meter relay, which finished third with a time of 4:03.38, another program record.
The three marks from Spire add to a record-setting start to the outdoor season for Chan, who also owns program records in the 100 meter hurdles (15.98) and 400 meter hurdles (1:04.84), both set at the Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) Invitational. She holds the top mark in five events in JBU's all-time outdoor record book in total.
The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday, April 4, at the Pittsburg State (Kan.) Suenram Gorilla Classic at Carnie Smith Stadium.
