OKLAHOMA CITY -- No. 17 John Brown University men's soccer's Marco Brizuela earned Sooner Athletic Offensive Player of the Week honors for his game-winner this past week, the conference office announced Monday morning (Aug. 24).
Brizuela, securing the first weekly honor of his career, becomes this first Sooner Athletic Offensive Player of the Week of the young 2026 season after netting the game-winning goal in the home opener against Benedictine (Kan.) on Aug. 20. The senior calmly slotted home a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to break the 1-1 deadlock late in the match.
The Golden Eagles (1-0-0) went on to win 2-1, also thanks to a goal from senior Gabriel Cabrera early in the contest and a combined effort in goal from junior Juan Almanza and freshman Parker Ross, who picked up his first career win in goal.
The Blue and Gold will continue its season-opening homestand when the Golden Eagles welcome Mission (Mo.) to Alumni Field for First Friday Fútbol, which is slated for kickoff at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be streamed live on the Urban Edge Network and the SAC Sports Network.
