OKLAHOMA CITY -- John Brown University sophomore Paige Addington has been named the Sooner Athletic Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Digital Scoreboards, the conference office announced Monday, Sept. 14.
It is the fifth career weekly league honor for Addington, a defensive specialist from Siloam Springs, Ark.
Addington totaled 48 digs across six sets on the week for an average of 8.00 digs per set as the Golden Eagles split a pair of road matches. The Golden Eagles fell 3-0 at Nelson (Texas) before rebounding with a 3-0 win at Texas Wesleyan, snapping a 12-match losing streak in the series.
Addington's individual performances anchored both matches. She posted 29 digs in three sets against Nelson for an average of 9.67 per set, a season high and the second-best single-match total of her career, accounting for more than 42 percent of JBU's team digs. She followed with 19 digs in three sets at Texas Wesleyan, an average of 6.33 per set.
Addington was also efficient in serve-receive on the week, finishing with a .920 average on 50 attempts with four errors.
The honor was the third of the season for the Golden Eagles, as Addington clinched Defensive Player of the Week last week, two weeks after senior Mia Bowman nabbed the honor on Aug. 24.
John Brown is now 6-6 overall and 2-2 in Sooner Athletic action. The Blue and Gold return to action Friday night (Sept. 18) against Wayland Baptist (Texas) inside Bill George Arena. First serve is at 6 p.m.
