TULSA -- Freshman Hope Ahnfeldt handed in a strong showing in her first collegiate race, and senior Jadin Whiting led the men's team as the John Brown University cross country programs opened the 2022 outdoor campaign at the Mohawk Sports Complex on Thursday morning (Sept. 1).
While not full-distance, the 4,000 meter (women's) and 6,000 meter (men's) races offered the Golden Eagles an opportunity to prepare for its first full-distance race on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Missouri Southern State.
Ahnfeldt's time of 14:41 earned her a top-10 finish as the freshman recorded a seven-place effort in the field of 42 runners. Also scoring for the JBU women were senior Emerson Turner with a 16:36 mark and freshman Liz Vazquez crossed the line at 16:41.
Freshman Lexi Scheufler (16:54) also scored in her first collegiate event while junior Sarah Smith rounded out the scoring at 17:01.
The Golden Eagle men, paced by Whiting's 19:28 effort, also saw sophomore Josiah Petak and freshman Matthew Cook factor in the scoring with times of 19:44 and 20:07, respectively. Junior Jake Hagood (20:08) and sophomore Drew Janzen (20:19) also finished in the John Brown top five efforts.
