Men’s Tennis Moves Back to .500 with 6-1 Win over St. Mary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The John Brown University men's tennis team was dominant in its victory over St. Mary (Kan.), winning the doubles point and the final four matches of singles play at Genesis Health Clubs – Clayview on Saturday morning (Feb. 17) to improve to 3-3 this season.

For the first time this season, freshmen Brady Dick and Negad Ezzat teamed up on the second court to give JBU a quick advantage in doubles play with a commanding 6-1 win over William Ogrizovich and Demetri Serrano. The Golden Eagles then clinched the doubles point with another impressive 6-1 win, this time at No. 3 when senior Carson Thoma and sophomore Mason Cary bested Jack Contrucci and Leyton Ross at the third flight – the tandem's first doubles win of the season.

Sophomore Hayes Stark improved to 3-3 on the season with a quick 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 to double the John Brown lead. After the Spires pulled within one, JBU continued to rattle off four consecutive wins.

Hudson Dick continued his impressive senior season with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 over Kevin Eutsey to improve to 6-0 on the season. Thoma then nabbed his first singles' victory of the year with a 6-0, 7-5 win at the fifth spot over Leyton Ross.

Brady Dick and sophomore Spencer Keeter finished off the win with victories at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively. Dick bested Jack Contrucci 6-3, 6-2, before Keeter used 6-1, 6-1 wins to improve to 3-2 on the year. Brady Dick joins his brother as the two undefeated Golden Eagles this season.

John Brown opens its home slate on Monday afternoon (Feb. 19) when the Golden Eagles host Ottawa (Kan.) at 3 p.m. at the JBU Tennis Courts.
