SILOAM SPRINGS -- The John Brown University men's tennis team jetted out to a 4-0 lead to clinch the match and closed out the 2024 home schedule with a 5-2 win over Bethany (Kan.), sweeping the season series, on Monday afternoon (April 1) at the JBU Tennis Courts.
Senior Hudson Dick and sophomore Spencer Keeter closed out a sweep in doubles action, using a 6-4 score to upend Bethany's top pairing of Franco Hernandez Colman and Zeke Mumford, handing the Golden Eagles (8-6) the one-point advantage entering singles play.
Dick moved to 12-1 on the year at the one, and doubled the JBU lead with 6-1, 6-0 scores against Hernandez Colman before Keeter raced off to 6-1, 6-2 wins over Carlos Manuel Ridriguez Rivas at the third flight.
Sophomore Jonathan Hillock improved to 2-2 in singles play this season and captured a 6-2, 6-0 quick win at the five to clinch the match.
While the Swedes (0-11) won two of the final three matchups, in his first collegiate action in singles play, freshman Andrew Aylor debuted in style, sweeping past Gannon Mosher 6-0, 6-0 at the bottom flight.
Both flights the Golden Eagles dropped, Bethany used set tiebreak wins to grab points, including a third-set tiebreaker at the two.
John Brown closes out the regular season with a trio of neutral site matches this weekend, beginning with a rematch with Baker (Kan.) on Friday morning (April 5) in Lawrence, Kan. at the Sports Pavilion Lawrence. First serve is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
