ST. LOUIS -- The John Brown University men's tennis team fell in 4-0 fashion on Wednesday morning (April 24) to Texas Wesleyan in the NAIA Unaffiliated Group Regional Championships quarterfinal round at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center to conclude its season.
Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles finished the season with a 10-8 mark as senior Hudson Dick (15-1) and freshman Brady Dick (11-4) landed on the All-Conference teams. Hudson Dick, whose singles match remained unfinished while the Rams (9-5) swept its way to the win, earned a fourth-consecutive first team selection. Brady Dick landed on the second team in his first season of collegiate action.
Joining Brady Dick on the second team was sophomore Hayes Stark, who compiled an overall record of 8-6 in singles play, including a 7-4 mark for the Golden Eagles at the six.
Hudson Dick and sophomore Spencer Keeter took care of business to open doubles play at the one, besting Pablo Olmedo and Gabriel Torres, 6-3, but Texas Wesleyan tied doubles play at one by scoring a win at the third flight. Brady Dick and freshman Negad Ezzat nearly completed the upset but fell by a 7-5 score to Marco Salamanca De Arcos and Jose Pablo Merino, allowing the fourth-seeded Rams a 1-0 advantage entering singles action.
TXWES then pieced together three consecutive wins at four, five and three, respectively, to clinch the match.
"We went up against a very good Texas Wesleyan team today," head coach Mike Campbell admitted. "After a really good showing and impressive doubles effort, we just weren't able to pull together on the single side. This year was one of the best seasons at John Brown, and having Hudson and Brady earn All-Conference was tremendous for us."
The senior class racked up 34 wins over the past four seasons and completed a pair of double-digit win seasons over the last three campaigns.
