OKLAHOMA CITY -- John Brown University men's soccer's senior goalkeeper Adam Tebbs was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning (Sept. 29).
Tebbs garnered his first-career weekly honor after leading the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 win at Science & Arts (Okla.) on Saturday evening (Sept. 27) to begin conference play.
He is the third Golden Eagle to win an SAC weekly honor after sophomore Alejandro Gallardo landed Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 2) and counterpart Juan Almanza secured the Defensive Player of the Week accolades for back-to-back weeks (Sept. 15, Sept. 22).
The Chanhassen, Minn. product made four saves in the Golden Eagles' 1-0 victory, the program's fifth-ever win at McLaughlin Field. Tebbs finished the match with his second clean sheet of the season and the fifth of his career as the Blue and Gold opened SAC play with a key road victory. He even began the play on the late game-winner, quickly distributing the ball from goal after a failed USAO corner kick. The JBU counter attack bolted upfield, finishing with a perfect passing play and a goal from Andres Pereira to provide the road side the difference needed.
JBU is 2-1-2 with Tebbs manning the goal, and the senior has allowed just six goals on 21 chances to boast a .833 save percentage and a 0.57 goals-against average.
The Blue and Gold open a two-match homestand tomorrow night (Sept. 30) when the Golden Eagles welcome Central Christian to Siloam Springs for a 5:35 p.m. contest. The match will be broadcast on the SAC Sports Network.
