Scoles Bests Four Division I Throwers to Win Shot Put, Golden Eagles Close Regular Season in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- John Brown University track and field closed out its regular season Friday (May 9) at the Arkansas Twilight at John McDonnell Stadium with six program top-10 performances highlighting the final meet of the 2025 campaign.

In the sprints, senior Andrew Morton ran the men's 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 10.68 seconds (+2.8) to finish 16th, tying his own third-best performance ever in the event with a season-best performance.

For the middle distance events, sophomore Anna Keys posted a time of 2:15.61 in the women's 800 meters to place 16th, recording the second-fastest time in program history and a personal record, improving by four seconds. Senior Mikey Duncan ran 2:20.46 in the same event, clocking the fifth-fastest time in program history. Junior Matthew Cook ran the men's 800 meters in 1:54.07 to place 19th, clocking the fourth-fastest mark in program history. Senior Drew Janzen also competed in the men's 800 meters, recording a time of 1:56.67.

In the distance events, senior Josiah Petak placed fifth in the men's 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 9:17.29, the second-best time in program history. Freshman Sam Burkett competed in the men's 1,500 meters, recording a time of 4:15.77.

Senior Evie Scoles highlighted the field events by capturing the women's shot put title with a throw of 13.02 meters (42 feet, 8.75 inches), the second-best mark in program history. The SAC champion beat out four competitors from Oklahoma State.

"It was a successful day for our crew, and it's always a blast to take athletes to the University of Arkansas to compete," head coach Peter Cunningham noted. "They put on a great meet, and it's a blessing to have the opportunity to compete against some of the fastest athletes in the nation.

"There are too many people to thank for helping our team improve and grow this year. We've experienced the Lord's goodness throughout the season. I'm incredibly blessed and thankful to have wrapped up my first year as head coach. I'm excited for what's ahead."

After her first-career appearance on the national stage during the indoor season, Scoles (based on her SAC championship two weeks ago) alongside Keys both will wait for the NAIA to announce the official qualifiers and seedings in the hopes their respective swan songs continue in Marion, Ind. at the 2025 National Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at Indiana Wesleyan.
