Campbell Announces Resignation After Five Seasons Leading JBU Tennis

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- John Brown University head men's and women's tennis coach Mike Campbell announced his resignation on Friday morning (May 2), bringing a five-year tenure to a close.

Across five seasons, Campbell posted a 42-47 (.472) record with the men's program and a 39-42 (.481) mark with the women's team.

The 2023-24 campaign proved historic, as Campbell guided Hudson Dick to the program's first-ever NAIA All-America honor. A four-time All-Conference first team selection, Dick graduated as the most decorated player in program history, holding career records for combined singles-doubles wins (93), win percentage (.721), single-season singles wins (16) and single-season singles win percentage (.938).

In total, Campbell's teams produced 22 All-Conference selections during his time as a Golden Eagle. On the men's side, eight honors were awarded, while the women's program accounted for 14 — including multiple-time honorees such as Ellie Swan, Kyla Isaac and Lin Xin Tan. First team selections included Sydney Smith (2021), Tan (2023, 2024) and Ana Moreno (2025).

Campbell's commitment to academic excellence was just as impactful. Over five seasons, his student-athletes earned 41 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors, including a program-best 10 selections in 2020-21. Every season under Campbell featured at least seven honorees, again reflecting a strong culture of balance between athletics and academics.

Campbell's men's teams posted winning records in three of his final four seasons, including a victory in the NAIA Unaffiliated Group postseason tournament in 2021. The women's squad advanced to the tournament semifinals in 2024, and in his final season at the helm, Campbell led the ladies to a 10-7 record, vaulting a program that finished winless in his first season to a 21-14 mark in his final two campaigns.
