#3 Golden Eagles Roll Past Evangel, Set Sights on Saturday Rivalry Match

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Senior Olivia Fish delivered a brace and junior Clare Barger added a pair of assists as six different Golden Eagles scored as the No. 3 John Brown University women's soccer team handled Evangel (Mo.) by a 7-1 full time score on Wednesday night (Sept. 10) at Alumni Field.

Senior Aubrey Winter's penalty kick conversion in the 21st minute – her first of the season – stood as the game-winner, while senior Lillian Johnson scored a beautiful goal just before the intermission, propelling the Golden Eagles (3-1-1) to a 4-0 lead at the break.

After junior Zoe Roberts and Winter hit consecutive crossbars on the same flurry, junior Julia Lambert potted her fourth of the season into an empty goal to give the Blue and Gold an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute of action.

Winter then connected from the penalty spot seven minutes later, the Valor (2-2-1) held the host side in check until Fish and Johnson scored just 1:13 before halftime. Both plays happened in similar fashion, with the first starting off the foot of freshman Joy Long, who played a ball up to Barger on the right flank. Barger's cross found Fish at the back post, similar to freshman Andi Riley starting the next scoring play in the midfield. Barger again launched a cross – this time to Johnson for her first of the season.

Despite out-shooting the Valor (2-2-1) by a 20-1 margin in the first half, chances were more sparse in the second half. Senior Kaelyn Mole netted her third of the season off a pass from Winter, ballooning the Blue and Gold lead to five.

Evangel was able to scratch one back off a defense miscue that allowed Amaura Austell to score her fourth goal in as many matches after breaking in all alone on sophomore Marely Fonseca, closing the gap back to four.

Sophomore Tianna Jones ripped a shot from 20 yards to the left side in the 69th minute, and Fish completed the brace in the 84th minute.

Fonseca (3-0-0) needed just one first-half save to collect the win in her return between the posts. The visiting Valor cycled through a trio of keepers, which combined for seven saves on 14 chances JBU took on goal. The hosts racked up an 11-0 advantage from the corner flag as the Golden Eagles have not allowed opponents more corner kicks in any match through five games of the 2025 season.

John Brown will now turn its attention to a rivalry match with No. 15 Oklahoma Wesleyan, scheduled for a 7 p.m. showdown on Saturday night (Sept. 13) at Alumni Field. The sides have split the last four meetings in four years, while the Blue and Gold are 7-1-0 all-time against OKWU in Siloam Springs.
