First Goals of Season Send Jarry to SAC Defensive Honor

OKLAHOMA CITY -- After scoring both of his first two goals of the season in a 3-0 regular-season finale that secured John Brown University the No. 2 seed in the Sooner Athletic tournament, senior defender Amaury Jarry was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Digital Scoreboards, the conference office announced Monday (Nov. 2).

Jarry accounted for two of the No. 19 Golden Eagles' three goals in Tuesday evening's (Oct. 27) shutout of Oklahoma City at Alumni Field, finishing with four points while putting all four of his shots on frame. The Lambesc, France, native played 82 minutes as John Brown closed the regular season at 10-4-1 overall and 6-3-0 in league play.

With JBU holding a one-goal advantage late in the opening half, Jarry doubled the margin with 46 seconds remaining before the interval. Senior Gabriel Cabrera and junior Alejandro Gallardo combined on the buildup before Jarry finished for his first goal of the campaign.

The senior added his second in the 89th minute, returning after a brief spell on the sideline and finishing a sequence set up by sophomore Constantin Bauer and freshman Wyatt Marksberry to put the final touch on the 3-0 victory.

The selection is the first SAC weekly award of Jarry's career and gives the Blue and Gold six men's soccer weekly honors this season among five different players, split evenly between three offensive and three defensive selections. Senior Marco Brizuela and Bauer previously collected Offensive Player of the Week honors, while junior goalkeeper Juan Almanza earned two defensive selections and freshman Parker Ross added another.

Second-seeded John Brown opens the Sooner Athletic tournament Wednesday evening (Nov. 4), welcoming seventh-seeded Oklahoma Panhandle State to Alumni Field for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal. The SAC Sports Network will provide live coverage of the postseason matchup.
