Riney Leads Blistering Attack in Sweep at Central Christian

McPHERSON, Kan. -- Just days after reaching a milestone, senior Savanna Riney posted another outstanding effort as the John Brown University volleyball team (15-14, 14-7 Sooner Athletic) eviscerated Central Christian College of Kansas (1-27, 1-20 Sooner Athletic) in straight sets (25-9, 25-11, 25-14) to open their final weekend of the regular season.

Riney blasted 14 kills and attacked the ball at a .591 clip to lead the JBU offense, which posted 39 kills, 10 service aces, and a team attack percentage of .440. Fellow senior Erin Mullins and sophomore Akayla Kador each added seven kills, while senior Emma DeSanti dished up a dozen assists, senior Julie Mulligan notched 10 digs, and Mullins added four blocks in the win as well. Five different Golden Eagles attacked the ball at better than .400 in the match.

The race for the third through sixth seeds in the Sooner Athletic Conference remains deadlocked headed into the season's final day on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are currently tied with Mid-America Christian (Okla.), Oklahoma City, and Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 14-7 in SAC play. The Golden Eagles are in the best position in the tiebreaker scenarios heading into play on Saturday, having won four of the six matches among the tied teams, and JBU has won 13 sets against other teams in the tie, both numbers are better than any other tied team. JBU and Oklahoma City both have finished playing the other three teams, while Mid-America Christian and Wayland Baptist will play a critical match in Plainview, Texas on Saturday afternoon that will be key in determining the final seedings.

The Golden Eagles will conclude their regular season on Saturday in Langston, Okla. where they will take on Langston (3-26, 2-19 SAC) at 1 p.m. in C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse. The match will air live on the SAC Sports Network.
