LANGSTON, Okla. -- Seniors Taylor Golmen and Savanna Riney led the John Brown University volleyball team in securing the third seed in the upcoming Sooner Athletic tournament via a sweep (25-17, 25-19, 25-10) of Langston (Okla.) on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 9) inside C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse.
Golmen, who reached her 1,000th career kill the previous night at Central Christian (Kan.), paced JBU with nine kills and three service aces.
The Golden Eagles (16-14, 15-7 Sooner Athletic) controlled play all afternoon, limiting the Lions (3-27, 2-20) to just a .026 attack percentage while racking up 33 kills and a dominant 15 total service aces. The Blue and Gold also recorded eight blocks.
Senior Julie Milligan contributed a season-best five service aces, bringing her total to 64 and junior Grace Barfknecht added four service aces, marking a career-high performance.
Senior Emma DeSanti, operating in JBU's standard 6-2 lineup, delivered an efficient performance. According to stats tracked from the bench, every ball DeSanti set in the first set, save one, resulted in a Golden Eagle termination.
The win secured JBU a tie for third place in the SAC regular season standings with Mid-America Christian (Okla.), both teams finishing 15-7 in league play. Due to JBU's season sweep over the Evangels, the Golden Eagles will welcome sixth-seeded Wayland Baptist (Texas) back to Bill George Arena on Tuesday evening (Nov. 12) for the quarterfinal round.
First serve is slated for 7 p.m. and the SAC Sports Network will carry the match live from Siloam Springs.
