SILOAM SPRINGS -- The John Brown University men's tennis team improved to 2-2 in Siloam Springs after besting Ozarks (Ark.), 6-1, taking its first win over the Eagles this season on Saturday afternoon (March 30) at the JBU Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles (7-6) raced out to a 4-0 lead and clinched the match, finishing the afternoon winning two of the final three courts to send Ozarks to 4-7 on the season.
Freshmen Brady Dick and Negad Ezzat improved to 2-2 on the season at the second doubles flight with a 6-1 win over Hikaru Yamaya and Griffin Huckelbury, which broke a 1-1 tie in tandem play. Senior Hudson Dick and sophomore Spencer Keeter got John Brown off to a fast start, extinguishing Carlos Molero Llopis and Joshua Wilde at the top flight.
Armed with a 1-0 advantage, Hudson Dick improved to 11-1 on the year with a third win over Carlos Molero Llopis, 6-3, 6-0, before Keeter ousted Wilde 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to hand the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead.
Ezzat moved to 2-0 at the third flight after a 6-2, 6-4, win over Kao Lenkopane, clinching the match for John Brown.
After the visitors captured its first and only point, Brady Dick expanded his record to 9-2 on the season with a third-set win over Sergio Munoz at the five, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. Sophomore Hayes Stark won his sixth time in nine chances this year at the six after completing a 7-5, 6-2, win over Griffin Huckelbury to close the afternoon.
Having already defeating the Swedes back on March 8 in Salina, Kan., 4-2, the Golden Eagles will welcome Bethany (Kan.) to Siloam Springs for the regular season home finale on Monday afternoon (April 1) at 1 p.m. JBU will then finish the regular season slate in the greater Kansas City area from April 5-6 in a three-match weekend.
