OKLAHOMA CITY -- For the fourth time in her career, John Brown University women's soccer's junior striker Julia Lambert was selected as the Sooner Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning (Oct. 4).
Lambert, a native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., led the No. 10 Golden Eagles (5-2-3, 2-0-1 Sooner Athletic) to a pair of shutout victories at Alumni Field over Central Christian (Kan.) and Wayland Baptist (Texas), scoring a brace in each match.
Against Central Christian in the midweek match, Lambert set up senior Sunnie Woodard's game-winner in the seventh minute before later scoring a goal in each half in JBU's 6-0 win over the Tigers.
On Saturday (Oct. 4), the Blue and Gold's leading scorer tapped in the game-winner just 21 seconds into the match and added another second half goal, powering John Brown to a 5-0 win over the Pioneers. JBU out-scored its opponents 11-0 on the week.
Lambert finished the week with 10 shots, six of those being on frame and leads JBU with eight goals and three assists (19 points). She is second in the SAC with nine points in three conference matches.
Last year's first team SAC selection is the third Golden Eagle to earn weekly honors this season and the second offensive weekly award. Sophomore Marely Fonseca won Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 29) and sophomore Katherine Keys landed the Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 2).
John Brown returns to the pitch Thursday evening (Oct. 9) when the Blue and Gold face Texas Wesleyan at Martin Field. The 5 p.m. matchup will air live on the SAC Sports Network and the Urban Edge Network.
