Seven Scorers Power No. 20 Women’s Soccer Past Central Christian

Five-goal second half extends Golden Eagles’ unbeaten streak to 10 and win streak to four

McPHERSON, Kan. -- Seven different players found the back of the net as the No. 20 John Brown University women's soccer team overwhelmed Central Christian (Kan.), 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 6) at CCCK Soccer Field.

The balanced scoring effort marked the sixth time this season the Blue and Gold have featured at least four different goal scorers in a match as John Brown (8-1-2, 4-0-0 Sooner Athletic) extended its unbeaten streak to 10 matches and its winning streak to four.

JBU controlled the match throughout, finishing with a 45-2 advantage in shots, putting 17 attempts on frame and generating all 10 corner kicks. The Golden Eagles carried a two-goal lead into halftime before erupting for five more over a 12:53 stretch in the second half.

Senior Addie Craig opened the scoring in the 7th minute, finishing her fifth goal of the season off a feed from junior Holly Lanter. The Golden Eagles doubled the advantage less than seven minutes later when junior Tianna Jones converted senior Ellie Porter's service for her sixth of the campaign.

John Brown continued pouring forward through the remainder of the opening half, generating 21 shots and five corners, but Central Christian goalkeeper Samantha Stoehner kept the margin at 2-0 with four saves before the break.

Senior Julia Lambert started the second-half barrage in the 55th minute, scoring her third goal of the season with Craig supplying the assist. Lambert nearly added another less than a minute later, but her header struck the crossbar.

Junior Bella Mendieta made it 4-0 in the 60th minute off sophomore Joy Long's pass, continuing her recent scoring tear with her third goal of the campaign.

Just 45 seconds later, sophomore Kayah Robbins added another. Junior Katherine Keys supplied the assist before joining the scoring herself in the 63rd minute, when Craig collected her second helper of the afternoon on Keys' team-leading seventh goal.

The Blue and Gold completed the five-goal second-half burst in the 68th minute. Mendieta turned provider on the final tally, setting up sophomore Andi Riley for her fourth of the season and a 7-0 advantage.

Craig led the individual production with a goal and two assists, while Keys and Mendieta each finished with a goal and a helper. Riley and Lanter shared the team lead with six shots apiece, with Riley placing four on frame.

Central Christian (0-11-0, 0-4-0) managed just two attempts for the match and none after halftime. Freshman Ansley Fuchs (8-1-2) needed one save to secure her seventh clean sheet of the season, denying Mia Kittner in the 28th minute on the Tigers' lone shot on goal.

In the loss, Stoehner finished with 10 saves for the host side.

John Brown remains on the road Saturday (Oct. 10), traveling to Oklahoma City for a 5 p.m. matchup with Mid-America Christian (Okla.) at Dill Field. Live coverage will be available on the Urban Edge Network and the SAC Sports Network.
