OKLAHOMA CITY -- After anchoring a defensive effort that allowed just one shot in a 4-0 conference-opening victory over Texas Wesleyan, John Brown University junior midfielder Caitlin Hilson was named the Sooner Athletic Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Digital Scoreboards, the league office announced Monday morning (Sept. 28).
Hilson helped the No. 14 Golden Eagles keep Texas Wesleyan from generating any sustained pressure Saturday afternoon (Sept. 26) at Alumni Field, surrendering just one shot on goal while not conceding a corner kick. The clean sheet was the Blue and Gold's fifth of the campaign as JBU improved to 5-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in SAC play.
A starter in all eight matches this season, Hilson has logged 651 minutes in the midfield while also contributing two goals and an assist for five points. She has attempted eight shots, putting two on frame.
The honor is the first SAC weekly award of Hilson's career and gives the Golden Eagles three women's soccer weekly selections this season. Sophomore Andi Riley earned Offensive Player of the Week honors Aug. 31, while freshman goalkeeper Ansley Fuchs collected Defensive Player of the Week recognition Sept. 21.
John Brown continues league play Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 29), traveling to Bethany, Okla., for a 1 p.m. matchup with Southwestern Christian at Cagle Family Field. Urban Edge Network and the SAC Sports Network will carry the action live.
