OKLAHOMA CITY -- John Brown University junior Juan Almanza has been named the Sooner Athletic Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Digital Scoreboards, the conference office announced Monday morning (Sept. 7).
It is the third career SAC weekly honor for Almanza, a goalkeeper from Panama City, Panama.
Almanza led the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 victory at No. 25 Xavier (La.), tying a career high with six saves to record his second career clean sheet. Xavier out-shot John Brown 8-1 in the first half, during which Almanza turned away two shots to keep the match scoreless.
He made four more saves in the second half to close out the shutout.
The Blue and Gold return to action later today in The Swamp, where the Golden Eagles will take on No. 18 LSU-Shreveport (La.) in a matinee contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
