BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The John Brown University volleyball team dropped a pair of four-set matches against Morningside (Iowa) and Dordt (Iowa) on Saturday, August 24, in the final day of the GoSarpy.com Invitational held inside the Lied Activity Center.
In the first match of the day, senior Savanna Riney led the Golden Eagles (1-2) with 12 kills and hit .296 (12-4-27). Sophomore Kailana Chamnongchith and senior Julie Milligan each served up three aces. Junior Emma DeSanti (18 assists) and Chamnongchith (15 assists) powered the JBU offense that hit .150 (39-20-127).
Chamnonchith finished with a double-double, adding 11 digs. Milligan added 10 digs.
The Golden Eagles hit .258 (13-5-31) in its first-set victory, but fell to .115 attacking over the final three sets, while the Mustangs (6-1) improved in offensive efficiency each set.
Sydney Marlow paced the Morningside offense with 20 terminations, and scored five of the Mustangs' 12 service aces in the match.
In the second match of the day, John Brown University volleyball again won the first set, but Dordt rallied back and captured three consecutive wins (25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 18-25). The loss moves the Golden Eagles' record to 1-3.
Savanna Riney finished with 11 kills and John Brown hit .167 (45-21-144) for the match. Riney also added five blocks, as did senior Erin Mullins.
The Defenders (4-2) finished with four players with at least 10 kills, paced by Ellie Dokter, while Ellie Weg added 13 kills on a .375 attacking mark (13-4-24).
The Golden Eagles will take on No. 24 Kansas Wesleyan and tournament host Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) when JBU travels to San Antonio, Texas to take part in the OLLU Shin Dig, which kicks off on Friday, Aug. 30 and continues through the weekend.
