Dr. Bill George graduated from John Brown University in 1948 before earning a graduate degree from Azusa Pacific University.

George returned to Northwest Arkansas in 1950 to begin working at JBU. He began managing over six JBU-owned radio stations before becoming vice president of the Brown Military Academy, Western Operations for John Brown Schools and the John Brown Schools Foundation.

He received the Distinguished Achiever Award by the JBU Board of Trustees in recognition for his outstanding performance while serving as the interim university president in 1994. Four years later, George was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the university.

George was elected to the JBU Board of Trustees in 1954 and served in that capacity until his death in 2008.

In admiration to his faithful service to the university, the newly-constructed basketball and volleyball arena was named in his honor in 2010.
