Dr. Ed Renfrow wore many hats during his 23 years of service at John Brown University - including cross country coach, professor of health and physical education and sports information director.

Renfrow came to JBU in 1981 after serving as head men’s track and field coach at the University of Arkansas from 1970-77 and established the women’s program in 1979. Tasked with re-establishing the JBU cross country programs, Renfrow served as head coach for the next seven years and had many athletes receive top honors in cross country, including NAIA All-American Matt Pearson. During that time, he also taught in the physical education division where he developed various programs and teaching tools for students including starting a motor development lab, majors club and a program that taught physical education to homeschooled students.

After completing his seven-year stint as cross country head coach, Renfrow continued to teach in the health and physical education department full time. In 2003, on the verge of retirement, Renfrow became the sports information director for one year.

Renfrow is also a member of the Arkansas Track and Field Hall of Fame.
