    Meritorious Service

Roy Englebrecht began his journey with John Brown University as a student at the Brown Military Academy in Long Beach and Glendora, Calif. Upon his graduation, Roy made the trek east to Arkansas to enroll at the university in 1963 to major in physical education.

Englebrecht served as team manager, trainer and statistician for the men’s basketball program from 1963-67. He also found himself behind the plate – serving as umpire for all JBU home baseball games. With apparently more time to give, Englebrecht decided to run track in 1966-67 and participated in the mile and two-mile events – even at one point holding the school record in the mile.

Upon graduation, he served as the voice of Golden Eagle basketball on KUOA, the local radio station, while teaching in area schools and finishing his Master of Education degree at Northeastern State (Okla.).

In 1972, Englebrecht moved back to California and found his niche in the sports world. After a stint as the sports information director at the University of California, Irvine, he then then served as the Director of Promotions for the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Kings and all L.A. Forum events for seven years. While at the Forum, Englebrect developed the Laker Girls Dance Team and coordinated the 1980 L.A. Lakers Championship Parade.

Currently the owner of Roy Englebrecht Promotions and Roy Englebrecht Events, California’s third largest fight promotions company, Englebrect has owned and operated Sportscaster Camps of America for over 20 years. He currently sits on the faculty and advisory board in the graduate sport management programs at the University of San Francisco and Caifornia State University, Long Beach.
