JAHIR MEJIA dominated opponents with his powerful style of play, as he became only the second John Brown University men's basketball student-athlete to ever receive the honor of being selected to an NAIA Division I All-America team. Both on and off the floor, his actions characterized his ability as he broke numerous single-game and single-season records while achieving a degree in both mechanical and electrical engineering.
DOMINATING is an adjective that best described his style of play. Despite standing at only 6-foot-6, the Panama City, Panama native dominated the interior like no other player in JBU history. Jahir broke every previous program rebounding record and finished his career as the third-highest scoring player in program history, averaging 13.6 points per game while hitting an amazing 56.4 percent of his field goal attempts.

COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE. Mejia used a combination of post skills, an ability to run the floor, and explosiveness to the ball in ways that few can as he made a huge impression on the program record book.
RAISING THE STANDARD. Mejia led the Golden Eagles to the program's first-ever appearance in the NAIA Division I Coaches' Top-25 Poll and to more wins over any three or four-year period in program history. JBU averaged 18 wins per season over his career as winning became the norm while Mejia was in the blue and gold. He helped JBU climb into the top tier of the NAIA premiere basketball conference, the Sooner Athletic. Twice chosen as an SAC first team selection, he consistently ranked near the top of the league and the NAIA in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.
EFFORT TO WIN. A warrior's mentality, Mejia backed down from no one. His accomplishments often came with limited minutes due to foul trouble, another reason why his career numbers are so impressive. He represented John Brown University to the highest extreme on and off the floor. Good big men don't come along every day; it may be a long time before Golden Eagle fans see another warrior like Jahir.
