DESIRE, FOCUS, DETERMINATION. These three qualities are essential for success, not only in athletics, but in all of life. Bill Seabert displayed these attributes throughout his four years of swimming and studying at John Brown University. Bill's accomplishments in the pool and in the academic arena are a tribute to his outstanding character.
AS A FRESHMAN, Bill competed at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships, placing fifth in the 500 yard freestyle and seventh in the 1650 yard freestyle and the 400 yard individual medley. All three finishes earned him All-America status. During his second year at the championships meets, Bill improved upon his previous finishes by placing third in the 500 yard freestyle, fourth in the 1650 yard freestyle and fifth in the 400 yard individual medley. His final two years of competition resulted in two NAIA National Championships, one in the 500 yard freestyle and the other in the 400 yard individual medley. During those two years, Bill also had second place finishes at the NAIA National Championships in the 1650 yard freestyle.
THROUGHOUT his four years of competition, Bill not only excelled in the pool, but also in the classroom, earning a selection to the NAIA Scholar-Athlete list. Bill attributed his success in school and swimming to God's blessing and grace, realizing that without his faith in God, that he could never have been victorious.
ALTHOUGH Bill had initially thought his swimming career would end after his high school days, he went on to become one of the premiere distance swimmers in the nation. Not only is Bill a six-time All-American, but he also is the school record holder in his three marquee events.
