CLUTCH. It is not every day that a player scores the game-winning goal in postseason play or in the NAIA National Championships, let alone in the final five minutes. That was the story of Ryan Winingham’s career: game after game, year after year – the goal that kept the team alive in the biggest matches. Elite at her position, Ryan’s natural ability to win balls out of the air complimented her ability to get out of pressure with technical ability. Her opponents came to know her ability well, and she often commanded two or three defenders in an effort to contain her.

FIRST. Ryan became the first player in program history to earn an All-American honor as a freshman, capping off an incredible first season that included an SAC Freshman of the Year award. A testament to her effort and ability, her impact was immediate when she stepped onto Alumni Field in the Blue and Gold.

LEADER. Vocal, competitive, and a will to win. Every great team needs a player that is willing to lead the charge in big games and big moments. The three-time All-Sooner Athletic first team selection was not only always up for the challenge, but relished every opportunity to play against the opposing teams’ best players.

THE 6. It is exceedingly difficult to become an All-American playing the defensive center midfield position. That is because they are often the ones doing the dirty work and generally do not have team-leading statistics, yet are vital to the success of any team. Ryan was continually recognized as one of the nation’s best players in this role – a testimony to her impact on the game.
